Overview

If you're craving authentic Texas-style barbecue right here in Norfolk, look no further than Redwood Smoke Shack Texas Inspired BBQ - Norfolk. Located at 2001 Manteo St, Norfolk, VA, this charming diner brings the bold and smoky flavors of Texas to the heart of Virginia.

From the moment you step inside Redwood Smoke Shack, the rich aroma of slow-cooked meats welcomes you. The interior has a rustic, yet inviting vibe, with wooden accents and vintage BBQ signage, setting the stage for an authentic dining experience. It's not just the décor that makes this place stand out - it's the food that truly steals the show. Whether you're a local or just passing through, you’re in for a treat.

The menu at Redwood Smoke Shack is a meat lover’s paradise. Smoky brisket, tender ribs, and juicy pulled pork are just the beginning. What makes this place special is the dedication to traditional Texas barbecue techniques. The meats are slow-cooked for hours in a wood-fired smoker, allowing the flavors to develop and intensify. Every bite is packed with that signature smoky flavor that you’d expect from a true Texas BBQ joint.

One of the standout dishes is the smoked brisket. It’s perfectly seasoned, with a crispy bark on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness inside. Whether you’re enjoying it on its own or paired with a side, it's clear that this brisket is a labor of love. The ribs are equally impressive - smoky and slightly sweet with a perfect glaze, they fall off the bone with just a gentle tug. It’s the kind of BBQ that makes you want to keep coming back for more.

But the flavor doesn’t stop there. The sides at Redwood Smoke Shack are just as noteworthy. The mac and cheese is creamy, comforting, and has just the right amount of cheesy goodness. If you’re looking for something with a bit more crunch, the coleslaw provides a refreshing contrast to the rich, smoky meats. And don’t forget to try the cornbread - light, sweet, and just a little crumbly, it’s the perfect accompaniment to any meal.

Redwood Smoke Shack also offers some great options for those who prefer a bit of heat. Their spicy BBQ sauce adds an extra kick to any dish, while the jalapeño cornbread gives you just the right amount of zing without overpowering the meal. Pair your meal with a cold drink from their selection of local craft beers, and you’re all set for a fantastic meal.

What’s also worth mentioning is the excellent customer service. The staff at Redwood Smoke Shack are friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help you choose the best dish to suit your taste. Whether you’re new to Texas-style BBQ or a seasoned fan, they’re happy to guide you through the menu and make recommendations based on your preferences.

The food was tasty, kept hot, and portions were good, so the price was reasonable given the quality served. I got a lunch combo with the pulled pork, beans and an extra side of Mac-n-cheese. The tea was fresh and not watery. The pulled pork was minced a little small for my preference but delicious and served on a soft n warm potato roll. Yum! I enjoyed the house bbq sauce. The mac-n-cheese was creamy without being gummy. The beans were really amazing. Tasty bean mix with good seasoning. I took them up on an offer of bananamisu and it was heavenly. Can't wait to go back for the chicken and brisket choices! Picnic tables inside or out for dining. ¹

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Absolute Hidden Gem in Norfolk! Tucked just off a main road, I’ve passed by this place countless times without realizing what I was missing. But today was my first visit—and WOW, I’m so glad I finally stopped in. The food was absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor and clearly made with care. The atmosphere was welcoming, the service was warm, and every bite felt like a treat. This spot truly is one of Norfolk’s hidden gems —a place you’ll want to come back to again and again. Highly recommended! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!

BEST BBQ IVE EVER HAD! We had the fall off the bone ribs that you can see the smoke permeation line in. The smoked flavoring was perfect and their seasoning not just salty. The meat was moist yet had a nice outer slight crisp char. Ours sides were the bomb perfectly seasoned and cooked fresh collards and White Cheddar Mac n cheese to die for. I’ll personally guarantee you’ll agree this is the best! Oh, don’t forget the sauces! Each sauce is different yet very good. Not just sugary yuck. We even tried a bit of the vinegar one and the mustard based one on the collards. Did I mention I am very impressed? Everything about this was perfect. The price was $70 including tips and taxes and we both got the two meat platters. A little high, but for truly the best bbq of my life? Yeah, I’ll be back!

This is authentic Texas BBQ. The brisket here has the red meat rings and there is no sauce - two signs that you have real TX BBQ. The sides are money and the deserts were great. This place is definitely highly recommended. If you're complaining about the prices here, you have no idea what it takes to make real TX BBQ and you don't deserve to put this in your mouth. Quality has a price and this place will get my money any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

First time here last night and it was really good! We got the meat sweats sampler, and everything was super flavorful and juicy. We tried 3 of the sauces, all very tasty. My favorite part might have been the pickled red onions - they’re unlike any I’ve ever had before. I do warn that even on a weekday they were sold out of a lot of things, so if you really want something on the menu keep that in mind! We also found it really cool they had a map to pin where you’re from. My husband and I are from rural Wisconsin, so we put a pin in as best we could! Safe to say we will be coming back.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Hands down the best BBQ in the 757 and 100% Texas style. We had the brisket, beef burnt ends, ribs, wings, collards, Mac n cheese, smoked baked beans and the pulled pork sandwich with Mac n cheese on it. Everything was perfect. Fast service. Friendly staff. Their house made vinegar sauce is packed with flavour. Highly recommend!
